PHILIPS Healthcare
Erasmus+ project
On the 22nd of November 2016 we, 8 students who participate in the Philips group of the Erasmus+ project, visited the Healthcare academy at Philips in The Netherlands.
When we first arrived at the Healthcare academy we got served tea or coffee and we got a short introduction about Philips. Because of safety reasons, we were shown a video about the safety instructions. After the introduction we got divided into two smaller groups and it was time to have a tour around the different parts of the Philips Health Care training campus.

ABOUT OUR VISIT
On the tour we got to meet a lot of different people who worked there, like mechanical engineers, designers and teachers of Philips students. At the different stops during the tour we had the chance to look at some of their medical devices and were introduced to the world of X-ray, ultrasounds, and numerous other aspects which are essential for the health care world. We also got to know about their new improvements of the different machines, and the ways in which they want to achieve their goal: “Improving the lives of 3 billion people by 2025”. In general we got to see a lot of the technical aspects of the Philips academy and why people come there to learn everything about their machines and even more important, the way they work. At Philips, all of the products are tested in chambers that have extremely warm and cold temperatures to ensure they are fit for transport. We were also allowed to go into these chambers and guess the temperatures. We also viewed the X-Ray room where we learned how to use the X-Ray machines which are used in hospitals worldwide. Philips ensures that all their machines are very easy to use, hence why us pupils were able to use them without problems.
In our opinion, the visit at the Healthcare academy of Philips was very interesting. We mostly focussed on the company’s products that we, healthy students, are luckily not in contact on a daily basis. The life-saving products fascinated us, because pretty much everything we got to know about them was new for us. We are thankful for this opportunity, and especially glad we had the chance to visit Philips.
We want to thank the people of the Philips Health Care academy for enthusiastically telling us about their job within this beautiful company, and showing us around. And also to all people who joined us during our visit, and journey through the Erasmus+ project: thank you very, very much!
