PHILIPS Healthcare
Erasmus+ project
HISTORY
The Philips Company was founded in 1891, by Gerard Philips and his father Frederik. Frederik, a banker based in Zaltbommel, financed the purchase and setup of a modest, empty factory building in Eindhoven. This is where the company started the production of carbon-filament lamps and other electro-technical products in 1892.

During world war II, the Philips family members managed to run the company by operating from the US as the North American Philips Company.

After the war the company moved back to the Netherlands, with their headquarters in Eindhoven. The company engineered a lot of electrical products and after a while they began to focus on healthcare, as well as lighting. In 2001, Philips took over the Healthcare Solutions Group (HSG) that is based in Böblingen, Germany. Since that time, Philips has focused more and more on Healthcare.
In June 2016, Philips divided its company into two divisions: lighting and healthcare, so that both departments can extend themselves.
Philips Healthcare is focusing on developing solutions based on the needs of care teams and patients. Philips Medical Systems is specialised in engineering diagnostic equipment. Nowadays it’s one of the market leaders together with Siemens and General Electric.
